London has been at the heart of the art and antique market since the 1800s and is currently the most important city in Europe for the international art and antiques trade, with the UK representing 56% of Europe's share of this market. In the last few years the nature of art buying has changed. Serious buyers are fast becoming arts consumers and not simply connoisseurs or academic arts collectors and Clarion Arts stable of events provide the perfect hunting ground for them through a visitor database of 250,000.
In the future, art and antiques will necessarily become part of the wider lifestyle of affluent consumers, a sector that is increasing in size and wealth but whose motivations and patterns of consumption are changing. Paul Flatters, Chief Executive, The Future Foundation.
